James is exceptionally athletic which allows him to compete at both the 5 and 4 positions despite his size.
He is comfortable in pick and roll situations. His ability to read and react to aggressive (hard hedge, hard switch) and soft (flat, soft hedge) ball screen defenses make him difficult to defend.
He fights hard for position on the block. Although he isn′t used on being the most dominant scorer in 1vs1 situations, he often gets deep position in the post, which causes problems for defenses. He gets a lot of easy baskets on drive and kick situations simply by stepping in and sealing his defender
James is an outstanding offensive rebounder. He works hard for great rebounding position. His athleticism combined with his strength make him difficult to keep off the boards.
James relies on his length and athleticism to be an active defender. He can guard ball screens in a variety of ways (hedge, switch, squeeze, flat). He is quick enough to keep smaller defenders in front on switches and strong enough to keep bigger defenders out of the paint.
James would excel in a system where isn′t relied on to be a go-to post scorer. His value comes in the form of energy and effort plays. Teams looking for a big man who is a reliable defender and active rebounder will like James. He would flourish on a team with other perimeter scorers.
