Fernandes: Guard of the Year

The portugeuese Guard Mario Fernandes received multiple awards for his outstanding season in Portugal, playing for Academica.

The 31 year old Guard Mario Feranandes joined Academica after an unsuccessful experience in Sweden and he let his new team from Coimbra to the Finals of the Portuguese League as well as to the Finals of the Hugo dos Santos Cups. They lost both competitions to the powerhouse in Portuguese basketball Benfica Lissabon. Over 26 games Mario averaged 13.5ppg, 3.0rpg, 5.6apg (second in the league) and 1.2spg while shooting 57.5% from 2point, 42.7% from 3point and 89.6% (also second in the league)from the free throw line.

For his outstanding season he was rewarded with the following awards:

Guard of the Year
All League First Team
All League Domestic Team
All Defensive Team

Also Mario was again invited to play for the Nation Team this summer and they started their preparation for the European Championship Qualification already.
