Manchester Giants have signed 6'5 Austrian-born Jamie Kohn for the 2014-2015 season.
The arrival of the
24-year-old Jamie Kohn takes coach Jeff Jones′ roster to five following the return of
Stefan Gill, David Watts and Callum Jones and the arrival of Darren Best.
And Jones is delighted to have landed Kohn, who has played for Tees Valley in
the EBL and Salzburg in Austria since finishing an impressive US college
career.
He said: "He is big for a guard and rebounds extremely well. He′s good
defensively, is athletic and can score.
"He has a high basketball IQ and we are hoping he will have a similar
impact as Rob Marsden did for us last year but in a slightly different
way."
Kohn, who has dual Austrian/US citizenship, played college basketball in the US
for Eastern Connecticut State, where in his senior year he led his team to a
24-6 record and the ′Sweet Sixteen′ in the 2012 NCAA tournament.
He graduated as a member of the elite 1,000 Point Club and set records for
games played (117) and career rebounds (877) for a guard. Kohn was the first
guard in the history of the league to lead it in rebounding.
In 2013 Kohn played his first professional season for the Tees Valley Mohawks
in the EBL and was named the ′Bosman Player of the Year′ after averaging 20 points
and 11 rebounds per game while leading the Mohawks to a 24-12 record and the
Trophy final.
Last year, he played for his home town team Salzburg in Austria′s second
division as well as five games in the first division where he averaged 15
points and 8 rebounds per game.
"I′m very excited about returning to England and looking forward to
helping the team return to the BBL play-offs," he said.
